Unit 4 Board of Education Takes Steps Toward New Facilities Plan

At a Special Meeting Monday, the Unit 4 Board of Education took its next steps toward developing a new, comprehensive facilities plan in partnership with the community. The Board took action on the creation of a special committee, authorized administration to hire a District construction manager and new architectural firm, and approved three property option agreements covering eight properties in the vicinity of Champaign Central High School.

Central High School Early Dismissal - Friday, September 4, 2015

Buses will be available directly following this dismissal for regular afternoon routes. Lunch will be provided. All afternoon athletic activities will be held as scheduled.

 

Referendum School Tours Starting March 3

Want to take a tour of our school facilities to inform your decision on the April 7 referendum?

Starting March 3, Central & Centennial High Schools, along with Dr. Howard Elementary School, will host weekly community tours every Tuesday from 9-10 a.m. leading up to the April 7 election. Community members are welcome to visit the school, speak with school administrators and students, and observe how students and teachers are utilizing the current facilities during the school day. 

Board of Education Votes to Place New Referendum on April Ballot

At its meeting Monday, the Champaign Board of Education voted unanimously to place a new $144 million facilities referendum on the April 7, 2015 ballot. The new proposal would include a new Central High School, expansion of Centennial High School, a new Dr. Howard Elementary School, and targeted renovations to the existing Central High School facility.

Unit 4 to Host Public Information Nights on High School Projects

Champaign Unit 4 School District will host two Public Information Nights to provide opportunities for evening school tours and to educate voters about the November 4 high school referendum. 

Public Information Nights will be held:

•    Central High School - Tuesday, October 21 from 6-8 p.m. in Seely Hall
•    Centennial High School - Thursday, October 30 in the Main Hallway (just inside the Visitor’s Entrance)

If the referendum passes in November, what is the timeline for construction at Centennial High School?

At Centennial High School, the proposed construction plans would come in phases, beginning with a new classroom addition on the South end of the building. The timing of this project would depend on what the local labor force can handle at the time and is yet to be determined. However, the District would aim to begin construction as soon as possible upon completion of the design process.

League of Women Voters - Referendum Information

The League of Women Voters will host a public meeting on Tuesday, September 16 at 7 p.m. at the Champaign Public Library. Superintendent Dr. Judy Wiegand will provide information to attendees regarding the upcoming referendum and answer community member questions.​ All are invited to attend.
